full military honors. Donald McGrane, of Waverly, was a Navy Aviation Anti-submarine technician on a
helicopter flying a search and rescue mission when enemy fire shot it down in July, 1967. McGrane and three
crew members died in the crash. Since then searchers found their remains, but it took years to identify them all.
Now all four will be buried together April 2nd, at Arlington National Cemetery.

The steak fry is a grill your own steak and the price includes your steak, a baked potato, toasted garlic
bread, lettuce salad bar, coffee and water.  If someone wishes to share a steak, a salad & potato can be
purchased for $6.

The orders must be placed at the bar or called in to the WAVP (319-483-9287)
by 3 pm on the day of the steak fry.

The steak fry hours are 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

The bar opens at 2 pm and orders called in before that time can be left on the WAVP's answering machine.

Saturday, 10th – VFW Steak Fry   5:30 – 7:30 pm
Tuesday, 13th – VFW Post 2208 meeting at 7:30 pm
Thursday, 15th – Petersen’s pulled pork meal   5:30 – 7 pm
Tuesday, 20th – VFW Auxiliary meeting at 5 pm
Monday, 26th – Cootie meeting at 7 pm
Thursday, 29th – Cootie fish fry    5:30 – 7 pm
Saturday, 31st – Cootie Steak Fry   5:30 – 7:30 pm

 District Commander Jeff Ryant has been deployed, so I will be the acting commander until his
return.
 Our next 3rd District Meeting will be held on 24 August 2019 at Post 3914, Charles City.

 Registration will start at 10:00 am.  Department Quartermaster Jerry Black will be our
Department Rep.  Be gentle on him.  Lunch will be served at 11:30 am, and the General Meeting
will begin at 1:00 pm.  I don’t anticipate this lasting past 3 pm. Please make every effort to have at
least one representative from your post in attendance.
