full military honors. Donald McGrane, of Waverly, was a Navy Aviation Anti-submarine technician on a helicopter flying a search
and rescue mission when enemy fire shot it down in July, 1967. McGrane and three crew members died in the crash. Since then
searchers found their remains, but it took years to identify them all.
Now all four will be buried together April 2nd, at Arlington National Cemetery.

The steak fry is a grill your own steak and the price includes your steak, a baked potato, toasted garlic
bread, lettuce salad bar, coffee and water.  If someone wishes to share a steak, a salad & potato can be
purchased for $6.

The orders must be placed at the bar or called in to the WAVP (319-483-9287)
by 3 pm on the day of the steak fry.

The steak fry hours are 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

The bar opens at 2 pm and orders called in before that time can be left on the WAVP's answering machine.

Beginning this Monday- 6/3 through Aug. 15 we will have amended hours on Monday/Tues.
We will open at 4 as usual but will close at 7 these days, or after Tacky Tues. has finished their deliberations!
We will have NO KITCHEN SERVICE on Mondays only, during this time.
All Thursday meal orders must still be called in or placed on the WAVP's facebook page
order form by 5 pm on Wednesday. These meals will be to go or dine in.
The VFW steak fry will be on Saturday, July 11th from 5:30 to 7 pm.
If due to social distancing, you are not comfortable grilling your own steak, we will grill it for
you. Orders must be placed by 3 pm on Saturday.

We still are giving new members their 1st year free or applying and
additional $30 towards their purchase of a life membership.
Each year the more than 1.5 million members of the VFW and VFW Auxiliary show
their commitment to America's youth as we provide millions of dollars worth of
awards and college scholarships. Our organizations want to encourage personal
growth and foster a greater appreciation for America, its history and values.
Participation in these opportunities is grouped by the students grade.
Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades have the opportunity to express their opinion,
improve writing skills while they compete for awards and prizes through the Patriot's
Pen Essay Contest. The 2020 - 2021 theme is, "What is Patriotism to Me?".
Students in grades 9-12 are given the opportunity to write and record an essay while
they compete for over $2 million in college scholarships and incentives. The 2020 -
2021 theme is, "Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?"
Entry deadline for both programs is October 31, 2020 to your local post. For more
